Hi All,
I'm planning on going to the Pacific Northwest Historic Races next weekend, and have decided to take Friday off to do a bit of a "scenic drive". I'll be attending the races on Saturday and staying somewhere near the track Friday night.
Can anyone recommend some good driving roads between here and Kent Washington?
Thanks!

Sure… I always try to do zero miles on I-5. Some of my favourite alternates…
Backroads from Birch Bay to Bellingham… around Lummi Shore Road and coming in to Bellingham on Marine Drive. Then through Bellingham to Fairhaven, down Chuckanut Drive, Bayview Edison Road, down to LaConner, then east on backroads to Pioneer Highway, then south to Marine Drive and in to Marysville. From there I'm not sure of the best choice… maybe Route 9 to Woodinville and by then you might be ready to complete the rest of the drive on the 405.
If you want a great guidebook to the twisty backroads, get a copy of Destination Highways. Published here in Vancouver, there are books for BC, WA, northern CA, and soon to be southern CA. Written for motorcyclists, they're great for Porsche owners too!

Thanks for the tips. I did some research via Google Maps, and I'm leaning towards State Route 20/North Cascades Highway. Looks SUPER remote, and by the looks of street view – straight out of Alan De Cadenet's "Victory" series. Then coming back on the 97/90. Anyone done the Route 20? looks very scenic and windy.

Forgot to ask, where are you starting from? I assumed Vancouver, but it sounds like you're inland.

I'm in Port Moody and am looking at the Sumas crossing, but am not sure yet what makes the most sense. I'm now heading out Saturday and attending races on Sunday. There is always a very large 356 and 911 2-liter group there, including the odd 906 and 904, if anyone wants to join up. Lots of cool cars being noisy and fast.

Changed my plans again. Stevens Pass with some detours along the way, followed by lunch in Leavenworth. The other rout was just WAY too long.
