PCA-CWR Autocross 2012

Our 2012 Autocross season is fast approaching and we have been able to book 5 dates for the year. A new and exciting change is that our large skidpad in Pitt Meadows has DOUBLED in sized, allowing for much more enjoyable courses and exciting new course designs.

 If you are a new Porsche club member, autocross is the best way to explore the limits of your new pride and joy, in a safe and low risk environment. Even if you have been driving for many years, if you have never experienced autocross, you will have a blast and learn lots of new things about your car and yourself. First timers and spectators are welcome to attend our events. We have lots of friendly and experienced drivers to provide instruction for those who need it.

We have secured the following dates: 

April 7th – north pad only

May 12th – both pads

May 27th – both pads

July 8th -both pads

Aug 5th – both pads

(Aug 5th may be moved to Aug 19th)

 Registration will be online only, via Karelo.com, just like last year. Fees will remain $40 per driver for the single pad events, and will be approximately $50 per driver for the double pad events. Although the amount of registered drivers will be capped, to ensure maximum amount of runs for each driver, the events will be open to members of the other local car clubs, in order to ensure our events can sustain themselves financially. This means that if you are interested in attending, you should sign up as soon as the registration links go live. I will be posting the registration links approximately 1-2 weeks before each event.

For 2012 the annual PCA-CWR Canada West Weekend will be held Septmeber 6th, 7th, 8th & 9th in Osoyoos B.C.

This relaxing Porsche weekend of golf, driving tours, Porsche show & shine, guided wine tours and banquets will again be at the fabulous Spirit Ridge Vineyard Resort & Spa,

Porsche Club members are privileged to special room rates for this event. We are still in the planning stage and registration is tenatively set for early Spring 2012.

For more than four decades, the Porsche 911 has been deemed
an automotive icon and the epitome of the sports car. That means that the
launch of the new Type 991 is an important event for the Porsche Museum
Stuttgart as well. As a curtain raiser for 2012, the new generation is being
welcomed as part of a major special exhibition from 31 January to 20 May, 2012
under the banner “911 Identity”.

More than 700,000 911s have been produced in
Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen since it was unveiled in 1963. The recipe for its
success is its uniqueness, because the 911 combines apparent contradictions
such as sportiness and everyday practicality, tradition and innovation,
exclusivity and social acceptance or design and functionality like no other
car. No wonder that each of the now seven 911 generations has written its own
success story. As a result, the Porsche Museum is exhibiting all the 911
generations, from the “original 911” to the new Type 991 – against the backdrop
of the prevailing mood of the relevant decade or year in which the sports car
icon came to market.

Rare motor racing variants such as the Porsche 911 Carrera
RS 2.7 “Safari” or Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid will also be on show. In addition,
to unique technical exhibits and cutaway models from Weissach, the visitor will
also get to see one of the new 911 generation “Erlkings”, before being able to
slide behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 Carrera at the end of the special
exhibition. The special exhibition also showcases steering wheels and wheel
rims from 1963 to the present day. Finally, the automotive retrospective is
rounded off by documents from the company archive that have never previously
been on public display.

Special Offers for Visitors

As part of the “911 Identity” special exhibition, the
Porsche Museum is also expanding its guided tour offering. 911 fans can brush
up their knowledge of the sports car icon during an one hour themed guided tour
– after first registering with the visitor service using the e-mail address
info.museum@porsche.de.

Team owner Kevin Buckler and long time PCA member has indicated that he is expecting another stout group to embark on the 24-hour endurance classic for its historic 50th Anniversary celebration. Last year, TRG fielded five cars and won the GT class for the 4th time in Daytona 24 History. Buckler anticipates a similar showing with five cars again scheduled to take the green in 2012.

TRG will take a multifaceted approach to their first test of the 2012 season, using the track time to test parts, dial in set-ups, closely study the new tires and the two brand new 2012 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars just delivered from Weissach, Germany.  Buckler indicated that while this isn’t the final driver lineup, it is an important opportunity to prepare to make those decisions and allow some new drivers time to get used to the high banks of Daytona.

Don’t own a Porsche yet? PCA Quest might be for you!

Although membership in PCA requires ownership/lease of a
Porsche or that you be in a Porsche-related business, we do offer something for
those of you actively trying to become Porsche owners.

The PCA Quest program provides you a six-month subscription
to Porsche Panorama, the club’s monthly national magazine. You’ll not only have
access to hundreds of Porsches for sale by PCA members in The Mart, but you’ll
also gain access to valuable technical information about the cars through the
many articles in Panorama. You’ll also have access to the on-line Mart during
your six-month subscription period. A logon account will be assigned to you
when you sign up for the Quest Program.

Although PCA Quest is not a full membership in PCA and does
not entitle you to some member benefits (attending member-only events, voting,
or becoming a member of a region), our region will welcome guests and you are
encouraged to contact us at Canada West Region.

PCA Quest is $40 for a one-time, six-month subscription
(non-renewable). The fee is non-refundable and cannot be applied toward a
membership in whole or in part should you acquire a Porsche and join PCA prior
to the expiration of the 6-month subscription.

The Autoweek  report claims two versions of the new engine are under development: a base 2.0-liter and larger 2.5-liter unit. The 2.5-liter unit is said to make up to 380 hp in its highest state of tune and could possibly feature a turbo charger and direct injection.

The new engine which is rumored to be the powerplant of a new entry level model that has been called the “Baby Boxster” and described as a successor to the iconic 550 Spyder, could power the entry level vehicles in Porsche’s future line-up.

The company has begun advertising the 911 as, of all things, a practical vehicle that can serve as a good-looking way to get around in the workaday world  and even, in some cases, can demonstrate the same capabilities as a minivan. In its “Engineered for Magic. Everyday” campaign, Porsche highlights 911 owners using the car for a series of mundane activities including hauling groceries and picking up kids from school.
