Hey everyone-

I've just posted a couple of new events on the calendar, that I'm calling the "Back Door to Whistler" run.

Basically, it's a long and fun way to head up to the Whistler Weekend next week.

It's not an official PCA event, but anyone who wants to join in, please feel free.

I'm heading out this coming Saturday morning to do some recon of the route, take some pictures, etc., so anyone who's looking for a short-notice trip, feel free to come along.

(Email me at pca@jeffgrant.com if you're interested in attending, and I"ll figure out an official meeting place/time).

For the recon trip, I'm planning on a 6am or 7am or so start from Coquitlam somewhere (that White Spot near the Yokohama, more than likely), and winging it from there.

I'm sure we can solidify the trip details after the recon run.

Anyone interested in coming along?

Hi Jeff,

I'm thinking I would like to tag along, as long as is not too early.

Which route are you planning to take to Lillooet?

Jeff and participants, I'll meet you near Lillooet next Friday for the return trip to Whistler. I will Google to calculate approx time you will be there.

See ya.

BC Hydro has a park just after you make the major "left hand turn" in Lillooet (can't remember the name of it) but it's really nice, lots of parking, lots of trees, grass, picnic tables, etc. I thought it'd be great if we brought a "picnic" lunch and stopped there for a bit.

Why don't you plan to meet us there? If I remember correctly, we made it there at roughly 1PM.

Also, my cel phone is 604-313-1411, so you could call to get an update on where we are.

OK… found more info about the recreation area…

http://www.bchydro.com/recreat…..201.html#3

I think the area that I saw was the Naxwit Picnic Area:

BC Hydro's newest picnic area is located about 3 km west of Lillooet along the Duffey Lake Road and is an easy walk from the Seton Dam Campsite. This is a day-use-only site with 14 picnic tables, washrooms, drinking water and interpretive signs detailing the history and ecology of the area. The site was designed with RVs and tour buses in mind, so there is plenty of oversized parking and easy access for larger vehicles.

The name Naxwit (pronounced Nack-wait) is the traditional place name for the area given by the Stl'atl'imx Nation. Naxwit means "snake" and refers to the many snakes that can be found in the nearby rocky slopes. Don't worry, these are Wandering Garter Snakes, which are not venomous and are usually quite small.

Situated on the banks of the Seton River and surrounded by steep cliffs, the setting of the area is spectacular and provides excellent opportunities for fishing and wildlife viewing. Mountain goats can almost always be seen climbing or resting on the surrounding cliffs. This is a great place to stop, stretch your legs, and admire the natural beauty of the area.

I'll try and find more information about it and keep you posted.

Looks like we've got quite a few more people joining us…

of note is a VW Van with a 911 engine in it… can't wait!

Friday just isn't going to show up fast enough, IMO.

We left Sumas Timmy's at 10am… were in Lillooet around 1pm or 1:30 or so, and Whistler by 3:15 (we were on the patio at the BrewPub at 3:30).

Basically the same time as the run on Friday.
