The damn electrical gremlins hit me again last night at the auto-x. Fuel pump would not run when I tried to start the car for the eighth run. Having experienced this a few times (too many to count), I immediately went to the fuse panel. Wiggled things to see if something was loose – nothing. Changed the fuel pump relay with the wiper relay and the car immediately and happily started. I was able to squeeze in my eighth run – also my best run of the night.
Over the last few months I have replaced, cleaned, rewired everything from fuel pump, check valves, fuel accumulator, relays, connectors, wires, etc.
I'm thinking the only remaining part untouched is the socket for the fuel pump relay. There must be a "poor" connection (big resistance) for the internal fuel pump relay diode to trip out?? I'll do some resistance testing.
Has anyone had experience in repalcing the relay sockets?? I would think it means cutting deep into the wiring harness. Something I did not really want to do, but looks like it is time to bite the bullet.
Any words of wisdom, caution?? Thanks all.
